"It has amazingly high spectral resolution and mass accuracy. Allows the determination of intact mass for proteins even with 150kDa molecular weight via spectral deconvolution. For smaller proteins (molecular weight less than 35-40 kDa) monoisotopic resolution can be obtained, allowing quantitation of isoforms based on their relative intensities. It is relatively expensive, but it's worth the investment as one can obtain such results as never ever before. Ever since we have bought the instrument it has helped to solve many of our previous analytical problems. Coupled to ultra high performance liquid chromatography (especially comprehensive 2D-UPLC as in our laboratory) it can further enhance the usability. When one has such an expensive investment it is crucial to get the most information possible. We have carefully chosen the best instrumentation to meet our needs."

"The Orbitrap Velos is far one of the fastest mass spectrometers and is able to be coupled to capillary electrophoresis. Calibration is not hard but still takes a while and has to be done every two weeks. Electronic board burnt down twice in our first year's use."
