The system is good tool for the food industry as well as other industries. It has flexibility of using both conductivity and PAD detector simultaneously. "

peak tailing problems, too much prep time, good software structure but lots of manual integration

"The cap systems have peak tailing problems for anion analyses that causes manual integration on most samples. A lack of in-line filtration means that every sample must be hand filtered. Why not use a 0.45 micron filter in the cap instead of a 20 micron? The AS-DV is a real clunker. The 5.9 mL vial volume is an awkward volume to work with and more than 50 positions are needed. A standard data export format is needed so that the LIMS designers can lock on a format. We spent many hours with our LIMS people getting the LIMS to read the exported file."

"The 5000 is very easy to use if you have been using the ICS-3000 for years. I already knew Chromeleon, which is a big hurdle, and most functions were the same as the 3000. The ICS-5000 may not be as simple with no prior knowledge of the software or hardware. "

Works well, if you keep everything clean, and take care of the system as recommended.

"The system is more sensitive than previous Ion Chromatography systems used, primarily because the eluent generator makes much sharper peaks for nitrate, orthophosphate, and sulfate. This has created new problems because impurities now show up in glassware, vials, pipets, and filters that were not detectable before. I spend a fair amount of time making sure that my blanks really are blank before I get to analysis. I also need to wear gloves when handling samples and vials to keep salts from my fingers out of the system. In return, this system delivers detection levels that are about 100 fold lower than the previous system. The capillary column is very convenient because it is almost always on. I have to shut it down once a week when the computer system requires updates. I did have some issues with some components not working quite correctly, requiring a visit from the service engineer, but once they were fixed, the system required very little maintenance. "

"We use this produce to analyze anions and cations in drinking water. This method allows us to reach the low limits of detection required by the Water regulations with neither reagent nor sample preparation required. Once the method was setup and validated it does not require highly trained staff to run. and has proved to be very reliable with a minimum of maintenance required. "

"The ICS 5000 is fully customizable for your application. It can run dual analysis with completely different chemistry. It's ease of use is wonderful. In my opinion, the software is superior to all other instrument manufacturers. The value is great because you have a machine that can easily go from simple ion chromatography up to the most complex liquid chromatography with the addition of more modules. You can grow your laboratory over time, if necessary, to offset budget issues."

"The ICS 5000 meets my needs for analysis. Provided you have the right column selection and analysis parameters; it produces high quality results. I have to use an AS23 for my highly variable samples. I rated it 4 out of 5 for ease of use because the Chromeleon software has a steep learning curve, even for someone who ran a DX500 with PeakNet for 15 years. I rated the after sales care at a 5 because I can always get someone to help with my questions and my sales rep checks in every once in a while to see how things are going. I rated it a 5 in value for money because the system is extremely versatile and beyond the initial purchase price it costs little to run (as long as you take good care of it)."
