Description
The SpectraMax M5 system is a dual-monochromator, multi-detection microplate reader with a triple-mode cuvette port and 6-384 microplate reading capability. Detection modalities include: absorbance (UV-Vis) fluorescence intensity (FI) fluorescence polarization (FP) time-resolved fluorescence (TRF) luminescence (Lum) The optical performance is comparable to a top-of-the-line dedicated spectrophotometer or spectrofluorometer with no trade-off between instrument performance and the number of read modes. Endpoint, kinetic, spectrum and area-well scanning read types and Molecular Devices’ PathCheck® Sensor allow homogeneous and heterogeneous biochemical- or cell-based microplate assays to be performed in one flexible system. The SpectraMax M5 system allows easy conversion and optimization of very-low-throughput to medium-high-throughput assays, faster, more precise results and reagent savings. In addition, assays requiring a read in two or more modes can be combined and run by issuing a single command.

"We have been using this for 3 years. It is easy to use and flexible. But it does have a well-to-well variation on 384 well plate when fluorescence intensity is measured. It also has a precision problem when 384 well plate was used. The signal goes down as the number of measurements are increased. The measurement with 96 well plates is OK." |

"Software is very easy to use although it does occasionally malfunction and needs to be shut down and restarted. The %CV across the plate is minimal and machine works quickly so that's always a plus. With many features, it is used quite a lot in our lab and we are purchasing another one this year." |

"Great software with easy analysis tools. It's easy to move and set-up. However, the technical service is slow and not very efficient." |

"I like this machine as it can read samples with very large absorbance (more than 3), some other machines can only read less than 3." |

"It is the best multifunctional reader with open-ended applications and extremely powerful SoftmaxPro statistical software. Patented Pathcheck and water constants are added features leading to most reliable and reproducible results. Easy to input any manufacturer's plate configurations for repeatability. I highly recommend this and other plate readers from Molecular devices for any start-up laboratory." |
