The rapidSTRIPE Salmonella Assay has been optimized for fast, highly sensitive detection of S. enterica. The DNA is purified (using a blackPREP Food DNA Kit I, for instance) after preparing a standard culture of the food to be studied. The extracted nucleic acids are then introduced into a combined, highly specific amplification and hybridization reaction. If the results are positive, the PCR product will bear a tag and an antigen for final detection on a Lateral Flow Strip (LFS). The appearance of a test line indicates positive results. The strip also includes a conjugate control, which is visible as a second test line and serves as a functional check for the LFS.
