Hamilton’s PRP™-C18 HPLC Column Expands Methods Development Toolkit

Hamilton’s new PRP-C18 Reversed-Phase HPLC Column expands the pH range of reversed-phase chromatography, providing high-efficiency separations over an extended column life in nearly any mobile phase at any pH. Stability to pH extremes extends the application of reversed-phase chromatography to the separation of amines and other organic bases. Mobile phase pH gradients are a powerful methods development approach, greatly simplifying the process for this large class of pharmaceutically important compounds.

The PRP-C18 offers outstanding performance and durability by combining exceptional chemical, mechanical and thermal stability. The rigid stationary phase of the PRP-C18 is stable mechanically (up to 5,000 psi) and thermally (greater than 100°C), which enables separations at high temperatures and pressures, shortens run times and requires less organic solvent.

Unlike traditional octadecylsilane (ODS) columns with pH limitations, the PRP-C18 can be cleaned with 1 molar sodium hydroxide or 1 molar sulfuric acid to remove contaminants that would irreversibly bind to silica C18. Such pH extremes damage traditional ODS columns, leading to anomalous peak shape and shifting retention times, both of which progressively worsen over the life of the column.
