  • Application Area: Inject viruses and CTBs into brain tissue in vivo

"Our lab owns 2 Nanoject IIs and they are an essential component of our research. We use them the inject viral agents and various neural tracers including CTBs into brain tissue in vivo. The precision and control the Nanoject II provides us is essential. Rather than performing one large infusion under manual control, we can perform hundreds of tiny precisely spaced injections, thus greatly reducing damage to surrounding tissue. For proper use of this injector a few simple points must be followed. 1) The gaskets (also referred to as o-rings) must be in the proper orientation. 2) The pipette must be inserted completely through the gaskets. 3) The correct diameter pipettes must be used. 4) Care must be taken to ensure no air bubbles are introduced when loading the pipette. And 5) The plunger must be returned to the Home position after use. Not doing so can lead to a complete failure of the unit to function properly. All of these points are clearly explained in the user manual, and very easy to follow once known. We readily train students in the proper use of the unit in one afternoon. When all else fails there's always the fantastic tech support of Drummond Scientific Co. to fall back on. I've called and emailed them a number of times over the years and they have always taken the time to walk us through any issues we're having, and have gotten us back up and running quickly. They are a friendly and knowledgeable staff that are willing to go the extra mile to ensure the research we're performing doesn't miss a beat. "

"I've used this device for about two years now. It's an improvement from what I've used before. Although it's quite simple to figure out how to use the device, I highly recommend reading the instruction booklet - there are some important instructions for care and optimal use."

"Overall, I have had positive experiences using the Nanoinject II. I have had no problems with several years of use. It is easy to train inexperienced users. The only frustration I had was with retracting the puller. It takes about 5 minutes unless you first tap the empty button while holding down fill. It took me three years to learn this trick. I have read the manual and do not recall the suggestion. "

"Nanoject is used for the delivery of RNA molecules or anti-sense morpholino molecules to frog embryos. Sample loading to the glass pipette requires back-filling of oil, which easily cause leaks. Furthermore, fixed amounts of injection volume are difficult to achieve."
