The Harrier 15/80 and 18/80 are benchtop centrifuges designed for routine laboratory use with the additional capability of being able to spin microtubes at up to 20,000 g. Other tubes can be spun in the 4 x 200ml swing-out rotor at up to 4500rpm (3,600g), or in the case of the Harrier 18/80 refrigerated centrifuge, up to 6,000rpm (6,300+ g).
At the heart of the Harriers is a new frequency controlled induction drive system, which allows higher speeds to be achieved. This maintenance free motor has no brushes that require changing which means that there is no build-up of carbon dust inside the centrifuge making it ideal for use in clean environments.
In common with other MSE centrifuges the Harriers have automatic rotor identification so that they can be set to run in "g" as well as "rpm". The rotor identification allows acceleration and braking rates to be properly controlled for different rotors and prevents rotors being used beyond their safe maximum limits. All standard MSE safety features are incorporated such as imbalance detection, steel guard ring and full lid interlock. This is backed up by compliance with the international standard for centrifuges BS EN 61010-2-020: 1995.
