Longest lasting robot without major downtime.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area: Crystallization in largest xray unit in industry

"After testing several robots from different companies, we recently decided to buy a second instrument, since the first one was our main work horse and the favorite of all users. There is no maintenance to be done after using it which is an advantage in an Open Access lab. It is easy to calibrate and to adjust according to the wishes of the users."

An excellent piece of equipment for crystallography!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Protein Crystallography, Seeding, Sitting Drop, Hanging Drop, LCP membrane protein attachment, Humid

"The robot is very easy to use with very little room for mistakes. The liquid pipetted from the tips are well placed in the well and consistent in position and volume. The interface is easy to understand in a user-friendly environment; the simulation mode allows for validations and safety measures before carrying out any experiments. The robot has the ability to dispense liquid to a myriad of different plate types which gives way to unlimited options. Cares are quite easy, only need to replace the tips spool once it runs out which takes no time at all. The rooms for attachment i.e., LCP crystallography and humidifier adds a lot more varieties to accommodate different goals. All those combined would make the robot well worth the money."

Great results! A must have in my lab!
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:Protein crystallization

"I am a crystallographer with ~10years of experience and have been using Mosquito for the last three. As compared to all my previous experiences with crystallization robots, Mosquito wins hands down. It is a very simple yet highly accurate robot that gives me the best quality crystals. While other robots and manual setups have yielded crystals, I get the highest diffracting crystals using Mosquito, probably due to the high degree of accuracy."

Fantastic
Rating: 4.7

  • Application Area:Protein/nucleic acid and complexes crystallization

"We purchased a TTP Labtech mosquito Crystal nanolitre protein crystallization robot roughly 6 months ago and it has been an absolutely brilliant purchase so far. The accuracy of dispensing is really excellent in terms of both the volume amount and how consistently the drop is centered in the sitting drop plates we use. I've used an Art Robbins phoenix during my post doc and although Art Robbins is an excellent company with great customer service and tech support it is more fiddly to have to adjust the viscosity setting for each protein solution in order to get their nanodispenser to dispense the desired volume accurately. With the mosquito you just create the program and hit go and it dispenses the desired volume first time, every time. I love it. "

"Our crystallography group utilizes two Mosquito robots and they are in near constant use each week. I primarily use the Mosquito for soluble protein crystallography. I find it very easy to design different protocols that I need based on my projects. I use the Mosquito for coarse screening and fine screening because of the minimal protein it uses and the fact that I can set-up hanging drops as well as sitting drops. I also find the Mosquito consistently functions without issues and the liquid handling is very accurate, which also helps to preserve protein. I highly recommend the Mosquito to any lab working in crystallography and looking to increase their throughput!"

  • Application Area:Crystallography Screen Setup

"We have used our Mosquito since 2006, and like other TTP Labtech instruments in our lab, it has been robust and easy to use. In the time we've had our Mosquito, our 100+ researchers have set up over 300,000 experiments with it at a fraction of the cost and time that it would have taken using manual methods. In hindsight, purchasing the Mosquito was the best thing our lab could have done at the time, as it's allowed us to move our science forward faster and at a lower cost than we could have ever achieved without it. Training and use of the Mosquito is easy, and the service we have received from TTP has been top-notch from the start. We couldn't ask for more from our Mosquito or TTP, and have been so impressed with it, that we purchased a second one in 2011 for our LCP setups. "

The nanolitre liquid handling capabilities produces drop size and placement speed that are not humanly possible.
Rating: 5.0

  • Application Area:protein crystallization

"The Mosquito is an excellent choice for those wishing to miniaturize and/or increase the throughput of their macromolecular crystallization trials. We have been happy owners of Mosquito since 2006 and in my opinion this device is perfect for the multi-user facility that we operate. There is little to go wrong with the instrument, partly because we have a single dedicated 'super-user' who can fine tune parameters on the odd occasion that things require a tweaking. Inveterate "fiddlers" (and we all have them in our labs) can do little damage. It is so easy to use that even Profs can use Mosquito! It runs and runs and runs, and in our experience of TTP Labtech, the after-sales care is excellent and cannot be faulted. Overall, TTP is a great company to do business with, and their Mosquito is a truly excellent, best-in-class product. "

"The Mosquito instrument is the iPad of robotics. In few words, it is really easy to use and program, fast to perform tasks and don't require a lot of maintenance (robust). It's the perfect instrument for doing high throughput screening of crystallization conditions. It will perfectly integrate in lab environment since it just requires a bench and a power point. "

"Very easy to use on day to day basis, very easy to program, intuitive and valuable in a multi-user environment. The only reason it doesn't get 5 for ease of use is that changing tip reels and calibration cannot be done without training."

mosquito® crystal is the protein crystallographer’s favourite liquid handler! It makes protein crystallization screening faster, more cost-effective and quite simply easier than ever before. It brings together speed, accuracy and high precision pipetting of nanolitre volumes with zero cross-contamination from a disposable tip. These automated liquid handling features have multiple benefits in the field of protein crystallography.

mosquito crystal offers:

  • flexible automation – rapid automated plate set-up for all standard crystallization techniques: sitting drop, hanging drop, microbatch (under-oil), bicelles, seeding and additive screening.
  • accuracy and precision – extremely accurate and precise pipetting in the 25 nL – 1,200 nL range
  • unrivalled reproducibility – every day, year-on-year, across a wide range of viscosities, access down to 10 nL on multi-aspirate
  • zero cross-contamination – positive displacement technology reduces contamination and eliminates slow wash steps
  • cost savings – the ability to use smaller volumes of valuable protein resulting in cost savings and enabling a larger number of screening conditions to be studied
  • minimal configuration changes for different experiments – eliminates the need for instrument configuration changes when changing techniques or liquid viscosities
  • exact drop precision – perfectly positioned drops for downstream imaging by placing protein and screen drops with the same head
  • robust and reliable – has outstanding reputation for robustness and reliability even in multiuser labs, very low maintenance
  • ease-of-use – simple and intuitive software with fast set-up
  • well supported – all backed up by an experienced network of support and applications specialists ready to help

SPT Labtech’s mosquito crystal can be used for the following applications:

all protein crystallization screening techniques:
