  • Application Area: Low-speed spins

"Relatively cheap, but a pain to deal with. These units are *really* sensitive to imbalances (seems like 1 gram or less, though the specs say 10 grams). Teaching the carrier position is harder than making a horse walk backward, but luckily it only needs to be done occasionally. Teaching robotic arms to reach inside is difficult because of the small opening. We have less than 1.0 mm of vertical clearance with the Agilent BenchBot arm. The buckets don't always swing to a flat position after spins, which means about 1/100 times a plate will end up being positioned on one of the plate carrier tabs and come out of the carrier. Errors during initialization 1/50 times or so. Otherwise pretty easy to use..."

  • Application Area:Automated Diagnostic Assay

"It is very sensitive to imbalances in plates. We encountered a lot of difficulties with deep well plates and eventually had to move to a different centrifuge altogether. It seems to work well for low volume plates (if high rcf is not needed). "

The Agilent Microplate Centrifuge offers stable high-speed centrifugation for 3-second cycle times. The Microplate Centrifuge is a small robot-accessible automated centrifuge that provides both vibration and noise control in a small, low-maintenance package. Ideal for high- or medium-throughput applications such as PCR purification, cell harvesting, and air bubble removal in high-density microplates, the Microplate Centrifuge is capable of rapid customizable acceleration and deceleration, minimizing the required cycle time. With a 3-second loading time and robust motion control, the Microplate Centrifuge can be accessed by most laboratory microplate handlers/robots.

Features:

  • Compact Footprint – Takes up very little bench space and fits easily into integrated systems
  • Universally Accessible – With the automated centrifuge loader and high-throughput door design, the Microplate Centrifuge can be integrated with many robotic systems
  • Stackable Design – Multiple Microplate Centrifuge units can be stacked on each other, increasing the system throughput without adding to the footprint
  • Low Vibration – Dampening isolates vibration from mounting surface and minimizes impact on adjacent instruments
  • Optional Microplate Loader – Facilitates microplate hand-off and placement into one of two internal centrifuge microplate carriers
