Lipoprotein (a) - Lp(a)

Description

 

The Randox liquid ready to use Lipoprotein (a) assay provides a highly sensitive and specific method for the detection of Lp(a) in human serum and plasma. The assay is based on an immunoturbidimetric method and is suitable for use on most chemistry analysers including the RX series furthermore it is not affected by Apo(a) size related bias like other commercially available methods.

• Wide measuring range 2.1-90mg/dl
• No sample preparation required
• Working stability of 30 days onboard the analyser
• Excellent specificity due to the high volume of polyclonal antibodies used, the Randox 5 point calibrator also helps by taking into account the variable size of Lp(a)
• Excellent correlation to the ELISA reference method
• Applications available for a wide range of chemistry analysers
• High levels of Lp(a) are known to occur in individuals with an otherwise normal lipid profile as such it is thought to contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease independent of other lipids.

Although not currently a routinely requested test the European Athersclerosis Society, the National Cholesterol Education Programme and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry recognise the usefulness of Lp(a) and recommend testing patients with a family history of premature CVD or those classified as moderate to high risk.
