Invaluable tool for chemical development and process optimization.
Application Area: Chemical development open access system for identification and quantification
"The Shimadzu Nexera UHPLC with LCMS-2020 LCMS running the NexLab, LabSolutions and OpenSolutions software is amazing. With ease, our systems run samples and emails results and can perform startup and shutdown protocols that really keep them running and highly available. There are even features that allow users to leverage overnight queueing of samples of larger 96 well plate runs, which keep the system available during daytime hours for a quick one-off in process control monitoring. The user interface is super easy to use and enables a novice to experts to get the data they need to decide and act, moving projects forward to our patients."

A good instrument. Maybe not my first choice as the main LCMS of a pharmaceutical lab.
Application Area:Detection & quantification of drugs in formulations and from extracted solutions of different tissue
"Although the equipment does the job, reproducibility may be an issue if sample preparation and software set-up aren't done correctly (sometimes even when they are), especially when the subject is a polar compound or when a gradient is required in order to identify/quantify two or more compounds. At least in our lab, there was a very brief introduction to the equipment that lacked important and useful information on sample and equipment set up (also not presented in the equipment's manual), which led us to an awful waste of time and resources until we figured them out (and we are still learning even after almost three years). Technical support is slow, expensive and the staff are poorly instructed for assessing researchers needs. Therefore, in my opinion, it is an instrument that it is not so user-friendly and requires users to have a medium to high understanding of mass spectrometry theory and equipment (or a highly trained lab technician to answer for it) or it may not give the answers expected from it - and even become a financial burden."

Open access UHPLC/MS made simple for the masses. A must-have for R&D.
Application Area:Open access UHPLC/MS for chemical development
"Our systems are open access systems that routinely run over 1,500 samples a month. The systems take the beating, and have excellent up-time, are highly available and deliver accurate data. The service and support is excellent. I recommend the open access NexLab/LabSolutions/Open Solutions software as well, as it makes the system administration and support effortless."

"I'm normally not a fan of the buggy LC/MS software analyst , but even Analyst makes more sense than the Class-VP / LabSolutions software (which is albeit a step up from Class-VP). Nothing about the software is intuitive, it's impossible to transfer methods between machines without glitching the software, and should your oven temperature fluctuate in the slightest at any point on your run, you should just give up science and become a lawyer. After-sales care seems ok but expensive. However, Shimadzu's much cheaper than the competition, which is why you probably don't see many complaints about say, the meat quality of a hot dog compared to its more expensive, Waters-y steak brethren."

"This instrument is easy to use and the software is too. The price of this instrument is not too expensive compared to other companies. I can sometimes do the maintenance myself; however, if I do need a serviceman, they make it happen as soon as possible."

"It is a very interesting bench top Single Quadrupole MS system (SQ-MS) with a nice software package (Labsolutions). Easy to maintain by cleaning all parts of MS source. It’s quite sensitive. The software is not so intuitive but very complete. Quite easy to tune but problems by using PEG solution."

Utilizing patented ultrafast (UF) technology, the LCMS-2020 mass spectrometer offers faster measurements and higher detection sensitivity for quicker and more accurate detection of trace impurities in a variety of applications.
When combined with a Nexera UHPLC or Prominence ultra-fast LC (UFLC/ UFLCXR), you’ll achieve the ultimate in separation performance and productivity.
The ESI method typically used for LCMS can be replaced with APCI, which is suitable for neutral compounds, or with a dual ionization source (DUIS) for simultaneous operation of both ionization modes, quickly and without tools. Selection of the DUIS ionization mode (ESI or APCI) can be performed via the computer. In addition, the desolvation line, where the ions enter the MS unit, can be replaced without breaking vacuum.
