"The KNIME software is a visual programming tool for data analysis. I have worked extensively with this software for a wide range of data analysis tasks and I can highly recommend it. KNIME can be used without any real programming experience. The graphical interface that allows users to drag, drop and connect nodes makes it easy to use, and with little training complex sorting, filtering, table operations and supervised and unsupervised machine learning tasks can be performed. This was useful as I helped colleagues with no programming skills analyze their data in ways Excel cannot do. The software can be acquired free of charge, but can also be bought along with development service. Recently, KNIME has come to be integrated with other scientific software, such as the molecular modeling tools from Schrodinger and CCG. The only shortcoming is that the software can be difficult to automatically test. If the schema of the database from which data is read changes, workflows can break."
