a key element of the screening platform
Application Area:High-throughput screening of chemical libraries
"Easy to use instrument, multimode plate reader integrated in a TECAN platform to screen chemical libraries and used to measure assays with readouts in absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence, checked once a year by TECAN (included in a maintenance contract). An improvement would be to have a much more accessible power switch, and also to increase the luminescence sensitivity."

"This instrument is easy to use as a standalone. Integrating this reader with a robotic plate handling system tends to slow down the initialization process. It does not initialize as the whole system started as we have to connect it with Magellan before initialize it with the robotic system. Magellan software is only available for this system to work, but we prefer icontrol."

"Generally it's OK. One major issue is that OD is measured by four independent heads simultaneously. This provides speed, but if you need to compare OD measurements between the different heads, you will run into trouble as they have different offsets that are hard to control for. The shaking of plates is also not very efficient, but to my knowledge this is a problem for all readers."

" In less than 14 months from purchase, the Tecan M1000 Pro Microplate Reader has had two major repairs. On separate occasions, the luminescent and fluorescent modules broke (power-board and controller board - seems to be a batch of defective parts from a supplier) and had to fight with Tecan to get the repairs covered, as they wanted to charge me near $6K for each repair. I wish I had spent the money and purchased the equivalent Bio-Tek microplate reader, as reliability is a major concern now with the Tecan. Also, the Tecan microplate reader has constant connection issues with the computer as well. I cannot recommend this instrument for purchase. "

"The Tecan M1000 Pro has many of the same features as its predecessors, making it easy to learn and use. The ability to transfer from an older Tecan microplate reader to this new version was simple and fast. I would recommend this instrument for anyone interested in using an easy format for ELISA testing."

"We just started to use this instrument to validate immunoassays that we are transferring from the bench to a TECAN Freedom EVO 200 workstation. The M1000 is perfectly integrated, it can work with EVO Standard and Plus but also as standalone feature. The M1000 is very versatile; we did not have to train for hours to get our first plates set up. Results layout and St. Curve plot are in a format that could be utilized straight for lab meeting presentations. We look forward to explore the many more options offered by this instrument. It has made our life really easy."
