We love our IXMs - they are dependable, take high-quality images, and are very fast!
Application Area: High-Content Imaging
"We purchased the Image Xpress Micro Confocal instrument to replace an aging first generation IX Micro in June of 2015. Since then we have had a reasonable time to evaluate its performance, and I would rate it very highly indeed. It does a great job of acquiring a large number of images from high-throughput biological assays quickly. We primarily run in 384-well plates, and its large field of view allows us to capture an entire well of a 384-well plate at 4x, or a whole well of a 96-well plate at 2x. Because of this, it allows us to run the instrument in place of lower-content imagers at speeds that are equal to or better than those imagers, with much higher resolution. We did not anticipate this benefit but it is most welcome. In addition to widefield images, we have also acquired some confocal images with our 60nM pinhole spinning disc. The instrument has both the ability to take images through the Z stack, and show each plane, and/or compress them into a single image. This is useful for 3D imaging of objects such as spheroids. The software also allows for easy acquisition of images taken over time. Support is simply fantastic, and I strongly recommend this instrument to anyone looking for something in this area."

"We utilize our ImageXpress along with the MetaXpress software for acquiring and analyzing images in a wide variety of assays, including neurite outgrowth, c. elegans RNAi screening, and spheroid analysis. We've found the image quality and consistency to be remarkable and the analysis software particularly robust."

"A robust and flexible high content image. Single camera so uses sequential scans. Can be controlled through journalling to have flexible and varied acquisition routines."

"I have had 2 experiences with this instrument. First during a demo where I tried a few microplates, and next as a loaner while our original IXM was being repaired. Overall, I think this is a great upgrade to the original instrument. The most important feature is that the camera is larger and has a new type of light source (LED) which is rated for 10,000 hours instead of 1000, so bulb changes will be much less frequent. They claim the instrument is 3x faster, and while this is technically true, it is only so for instances where you are imaging at high magnification 10x+ and you would wish to capture more than one field. The machine itself isn't any faster, it simply collects images that are 3x larger. Nevertheless, this is really terrific for those who want to speed up their high content imaging. I rate this instrument highly, and recommend it fully."
