HORIZON is not a do-it-yourself "toolbag" or generic all-purpose LIMS. It's not a converted hospital information system (HIS) or process control LIMS retrofitted for the special needs of environmental, public health or clinical/toxicology testing applications. Every transaction in HORIZON was designed, from the ground up, for industry-specific users.
HORIZON's technology base is Oracle- both the database and the user interface. Chemware optimized HORIZON to take advantage of Oracle's functions and performance. You aren't locked into Chemware preferences for third-party report writers or spreadsheet applications because virtually all present-day PC packages can connect to Oracle using a direct database or ODBC connection. The industry-standard SQL language or any modern report writer may be used for ad hoc querying and reporting.
