Principle

As a prerequisite for the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), viral RNA must be isolated from serum or plasma. Virus lysis is accomplished by incubation of the sample in a special Lysis/Binding Buffer. After applying the lysis mixture to a High Pure Filter Tube, nucleic acids bind to the surface of glass fibers in the presence of chaotropic salts. The binding process is specific for nucleic acids, which are purified from salts, proteins, and other impurities by a Washing Buffer and centrifugation step. The bound nucleic acids are eluted in water, and collected after centrifugation.
