The Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) BioProbe® labeled probe is prepared by nick translation of two clones of HSV DNA, one 8 kb fragment from HSV 1 DNA and one 16 kb fragment from HSV 2 DNA. The probe is specific for herpes simplex viruses. It does not cross hybridize to cytomegalovirus nor Epstein-Barr virus, but is capable of detecting clinical isolates of HSV. Fragment size range: 100-1000 base pairs (as estimated by agarose gel electrophoresis).
