  • Application Area: Transfecting Agent

"Although fugene 6 was ok to use it was discontinued and I had to switch to another reagent in middle of my study. The problem with fugene and other transfecting reagent is that it evaporates very easily and the container that it comes in is not made appropriately to protect it from evaporation. Also you can’t aliquote because of this same issue."

Review date: 19 Jan 2010 | FuGENE 6 Transfection Reagent

Roche FuGENE 6 Transfection Reagent is a non-liposomal multicomponent reagent well-suited for experiments involving cellular analysis. Due to the simple methodology of FuGENE 6 Transfection Reagent, minimal optimization, low cytotoxicity, and ability to provide high transfection efficiency even in the presence of serum, it is one of the standard transfection reagents in many different laboratories around the world.

With a mention in more than 8,500 publications, Roche FuGENE 6 Transfection Reagent has become one of the most widely used transfection reagents in the world. A list of more than 700 successfully transfected cell types, including many "hard-to-transfect" cell lines transfected with DNA plasmids (including very large plasmids >12 kb), is available in our Transfected Cells Database. To consult this database and to find more information about the use of FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent, please visit our Transfection Special Interest Site.

Features of the Roche FuGENE 6 Transfection Reagent:

  • Avoid time-consuming optimization procedures by relying on high transfection efficiency proven in more than 700 cell types, including many "hard-to-transfect" cells.
  • Generate physiologically relevant results with the low-cytotoxicity of FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent. A recent gene-chip study demonstrated that a leading competitor´s transfection reagent significantly influenced the expression of more than 2,000 genes, compared to only 30 genes affected by FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent.
  • Transfect in serum-free or serum-containing media. FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent is highly efficient both in the presence and absence of serum. In most cases, the same cell culture medium used for routine cell culture (e.g., one that contains serum) can also be used during transfection. This is especially useful in cases where transfection efficiency improves in the presence of serum.
  • Save time and effort by eliminating multiple handling steps. Simply dilute FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent, incubate it with plasmid DNA, and pipet the mixture directly onto your cells (with or without serum).
  • Use less reagent per transfection. Perform more transfections with 1 ml of FuGENE® 6 Transfection Reagent than with 1 ml of competitors’ reagents.
  • Obtain a higher yield of stable transfections through higher cell-survival rates.
