Fos-Choline Detergents are extremely helpful in refolding membrane proteins for NMR studies and are useful for the stabilizing proteins during crystallization. The chemical nature of the detergents forms micelles which mimic lipid bilayer conditions. Fos-Choline Detergents keep membrane proteins stable and soluble in aqueous conditions. The groups all have in common a phosphocholine headgroup and possess a simple or split hydrophobic tail group.
