The performance is excellent considering the relatively low price point.
Application Area: Whole tissue section scan / 96-well high throughput scan
"The EVOS® FL Auto Imaging System is an easy to use bench top epifluorescence microscope that can be automated to scan multi-well plates, culture flasks and slides. There is huge selection of LED/filter cubes that cover pretty much the entire spectrum of dyes from UV all the way to IR. The automated scanning features supporting most types of culture vessels, multi-well plates and slides. We use the system extensively to scan tumor sections and 96-well plates for high content screening. We compared it side by side to an Olympus IX-81 Scan^R system the performance is generally comparable at 100X and 200X magnifications. Considering the price point, which is about 1/4 of that of the IX-81, this microscope is of good value."

Good or bad depending on your needs
Application Area:Slide scanning/microscopy
"Quality of instrument depends on your needs. It is excellent for automated imaging of culture plates (has inserts and software templates for many formats) and brightfield slide scanning at 10x. It is also very easy to use for these purposes. On the other hand, it is not very good for slide scanning at higher than 10x. We purchased the 20x Plan Apo (UPLSAPO), which is a very nice objective, but even ~3 years after purchasing, none of the firmware updates fully support it. As a result it is not parfocal or parcentral with other objectives. Also, when producing image tiles with this objective, they do not stitch properly. Finally, for fluorescence imaging, stitching with any of the objectives resulting in shading artifacts. After sales care: it began making noise when switching filter cubes (it is about 3 years old), so we contacted the company about coming out to look at it. They want a PO for $5k just to come out and look at it since we do not have a service contract."

Great value made my research lot easier than before
Application Area:cancer cell imaging for biomarkers
"My project involves development of novel non-invasive bio-marker for prostate cancer detection. To accurately deduct the cancer cells in urine, it is important to first know which specific cell are showing the fluorescence. This requires studying with cell specific markers for which a confocal microscope is needed. EVOS® microscope line make high-quality imaging easier than ever before. Featuring LED illumination, integrated hardware/software, no bulbs, no alignment, no on-going costs or maintenance, EVOS® microscopes offer extraordinary comfort and ease of use."

"The whole EVOS line is easy to use. It has a screen instead of eyepieces, so teaching students and observing what they are doing is easy. It doesn't have many knobs or buttons, so the scope is never out of align or not set to default. The images obtained are publication quality. I used the core scope and the inverted one just up from the core. I have not used the fluorescent one, but have seen many demonstrations with it. It is as easy to use as the others. I highly recommend these scopes for general lab use, especially if there are many students or trainees. "

"It is easy to take some quick pictures on overall cell morphology, staining pattern and localization. This is useful to choose which one might be useful for later high resolution imaging, and thus reduces the time needed for total analysis."

"This microscope is very easy to use! That's probably one of the best features because your eyes don't come away in pain after a long day of taking pictures. The quality is also very good, but it not as good at 40X."

"The refresh rate of the camera is not conducive for motile cell imaging. We have an EVOS core and EVOS fl. Both are just over two years old (one year outside of warranty) and are currently back at AMG getting repaired. To have the scope repaired you need to ship it back to the company. To ship you need to package it properly (if you don't have the original box they will let you buy one... so generous). Our EVOS fl has a bad usb, and a broken camera. Cost of repairs: $3200. I have no idea what was broken with the core, but labour charges for checking and tightening wiring is $400. We are paying 3500 to repair two microscopes that are only two years old. Not good value for money. Not good after sales service. All round poor experience."

"This is the best and the most economical product available with the added ease of use. The microscope comes with a touch screen monitor and it is extremely easy to use. The company is very easy to work with. They actually understand our needs and cater to it. Love this product!"
