"The two core dies are simply not hard enough (we use the 5 and 7 mm diameter ones). As a research academic lab, with many students using the instrument, we needed to order or make new ones several times, as they squash on one side and cannot fit in anymore. Now, we do not use them at all."

"Together with press, it allows a very fast preparation of solid samples for IR spectroscopy in transmission mode. The obtained pellets are of high quality. The manometer is very accurate, which allows a reproducible result from pressurization of the pellets. The reproducibility of pellet technique of transmission IR spectroscopy is inherently of low reproducibility from the quantitative point of view. However, the obtained pellets are qualitatively highly reproducible."

"I have been use this products for along time to make KBr samples for infrared spectroscopic analysis and make carbon mix disk for physical studies. It is very good for these applications. The kit it self is very easy to use, will never break if you use it correctly with out forcing putting the parts together. it is value for money as it lasts me over 10 years and still using it with vacuum and without vacuum."

"I used the evacuable pellets dies in my research program for obtaining various kind of pellets i.e. magnesium diboride, oxide powder, graphite, hydroxyapatite, etc. in all cases the dies were very easy to use, easy to clean and easy to evacuate the pellet. they also proved a good behavior in terms of mechanical resistance and endurance. I am really pleased to have such a good product even if they were not designed for this kind of work, but for preparing the infrared pellets which presume the use of another type of powder. "

Specac manufactures a wide range of high-quality Atlas Series Evacuable Pellet Dies suitable compacting powdered samples into discs or briquettes. These are particularly well suited for the preparation of solid KBr pellets for FTIR molecular spectroscopic analysis and XRF pellets for X-Ray Fluorescence atomic spectroscopic analysis (as required by a number of USLP and ASTM methods), but also find use in a broad range of other applications. Atlas Series Evacuable Pellet Dies are typically used in conjunction with the Specac’s Atlas Series of Hydraulic Press Products.

These Evacuable Pellet Dies produce circular pellets in sizes from 5 mm to 40 mm diameter as standard, but other shapes and sizes are available on request. These pellet dies cover a range of load capabilities. For optimum quality and durability of the pellet die, all parts are manufactured from hardened stainless steel, and surfaces that come in contact with the sample are highly polished.

Each Pellet Die comprises an evacuable base, body, plunger, set of pellets, extractor ring, and O Ring Kit. Both Standard Evacuable Pellet Dies are available, as well as a number of Lightweight Pellet Dies. Being lighter, the latter pellet dies are easier to handle in laboratory applications that require repeated pellet preparation.
