"I recently bought the BioTek ELx 405 Deep Well Microplate Washer. Prior to buying the BioTek microplate reader, I had used devices from other manufacturers which were although cumbersome and difficult to use, they were adequate for our work. However, I along with the research associates in my group prefer the BioTek microplate washer specifically because of its ease of use, reliability and an excellent technical support team."

"We use this for aspirating supernatants from pelleted cells and we need the remaining volumes to be precise. Works very well for that; vacuum is pretty consistent across tubes, pellets do not get disrupted and the positioning is highly accurate. We have the valve and ultrasonic upgrades for the sake of maintenance: we have one of the four valves dedicated to water and rinse the tips of any salts or cells if there will be any significant delay between processing plates to prevent clogging. The ultrasonic cleaning cycle is very good at clearing clogs when they do form. After a year of heavy use I've yet to use the rapier to clean the manifold. We use the instrument manually (interface is fine), on a computer via LHC2 software (interface is better) and automatically in a Vworks-integrated system. Note that if you're planning to automate, BioTek will not provide serial strings; you must use their LHC2 software. Have had minor problems with valves and fluid sensors but have not needed servi"

"Fantastic plate washer. Processes hundreds of washes for ELISAs with ease and finesse. Manifold moves smoothly and effortlessly across platform. Produces reliable results at breakneck speeds previously un-achievable with manual plate washing. Invaluable part of the bioanalytical chemistry team; would take out a second mortgage to buy another instrument. Can be sassy at times, for example filters leading to outlet pump tend to clog after overuse without emptying waste vesicle. Don't forget to clear all lines with DI water upon termination of day or machine will be clogged with salt build up. 100000/10 stars, loyal scientist forever."

"It works fine, but it wastes a lot of volume (water) for priming/rinsing steps and produces too much waste. When it clogs there are lots of channels to 'unclog'."

From the leaders in microplate washing, BioTek introduces the world’s first deep well microplate washer that aspirates and dispenses into 96- and 384-well plates <50 mm in height.

ANSI/SBS standard microplates are also accommodated, resulting in a total solution for all of a laboratory’s solid bottom microplate washing needs. The new ELx405™ Select Deep Well Microplate Washer is a robot compatible, full plate washer incorporating BioTek’s patented Dual-Action™ manifold with independent filling and evacuation control for precise overfill washing and overflow protection. Available low-flow rates and angled dispensing make the ELx405 particularly useful in cell-based assays.
