"We already have a Fluostar which is in a way the old version of this machine. The ClarioStar is a multimode plate reader (abs, Fluo, lumi) very easy to use, powerful and very sensitive. The big plus for us considering the Fluostar is that the machine has a monochromator which is an optical device that selects a wavelength of light or a range thereof. So we are not limited anymore with filters!"

In our current project we combine either our red fluorescent CADDis sensor for cAMP or our red fluorescent DAG sensor with our green arrestin signaling sensor in the same cells to determine agonist bias in a single assay. The Clariostar is particularly well-suited for these multiplex assays in living cells because of the excellent optical path design. "I use the CLARIOstar mainly for enzyme kinetics. I like the fact that the CLARIOstar can measure at a very short intervals. This is very important to me since a lot of the enzymes I use are very good at cleaving the fluorescent substrates that I'm using. I also like the CLARIOstar because it can read at multiple gains. So if I don't know the well that will generate the most fluorescence I can set a low, medium and high gain and pick the best for my application. The software is very easy to navigate for both the CLARIOstar and the MARs analysis software. Just recently our institutes old plate reader that was used for dual luciferase assays went down. The CLARIOstar is now being used by our institute for all the dual luciferase assays. Set up was easy and all the new users were up and running in about 30 minutes. I know BMG tech support is only a phone call away and is always willing to help. If they don't know the solution to my problem while I'm on the phone with them, they call back as soon as they figure out the solution. I could not be happier with the choice I made to purchase the CLARIOstar over other fluorescent plate readers."
