  • Application Area:Real time fluoresecence production

"We purchased the CLARIOstar with the gas control module. As a plate reader, the CLARIOstar shows a fantastic performance with fluorescence, luminescence and UV measurements. The monochromator system of filters gives a great flexibility with very minor loss in sensitivity when compared to normal filter settings. The gas control unit offers a unique versatility, since you can either use the device as a conventional plate reader or to monitor production of fluorescent proteins in living cells with high precision. We are therefore very satisfied with this device and we strongly recommend it. "

"A great instrument to measure FP. This reader is amazing for measuring polarization. It is extremely sensitive. Also the ability to fine tune the bandwidth makes it a great instrument. "

"The CLARIOstar is very easy to use, super sensitivity and the speed in many different technologies is outstanding and versatility in fluorescence assays. I have demo'd both the PHERAstar FS and the Clario and their performance is similar. Clario definitively wins for the price tag."

"The instrument and its stackers work well for high throughput screening, allowing fast and consistent read times for microplates. FP comparisons to other readers found the ClarioStar to have higher resolution, require fewer flashes, and result in lower CVs per plate. BMG is very fast at answering any questions and worked with us on any custom requests. "

  • Application Area:Compounds effect in stem cell screening

"The Clariostar is a really robust machine and with great flexibility. The control interface is easy to use and allows a lot of customization. It has a very good sensitivity. And spectral scanning option is very useful. In stacker mode, its speed is necessary in our screening campaign. Moreover, its price is really competitive."

  • Application Area:DLR, Florescent Reporter, ELISA assays

"We purchased a Clariostar reader recently to be a workhorse for our labs plate reading needs, and it has performed excellently. Compared to our old microplate reader, this machine is much easier to use and maintain, and not having to change out filters every time we run a new assay is wonderful. We got great install and setup support when we purchased as well. The spectral scanning feature, adjustable band pass, and price really sold us on the BMG reader over another Tecan system we were looking at. We are very happy with our purchase. "

  • Application Area:Binding and Activity Assay Development; Drug discovery

"The instrument is versatile for a broad range of applications and reading modes. We currently use it for fluorescence polarization, intensity, UV-ABS readouts. The use of a monochromator instead of filters or optic modules really makes the instrument flexible and met the needs of all the research projects in the lab, as each of us uses different molecules/fluorophores and detection modes. We had a minor issue with the software, but it was promptly solved by the BMG support (they are excellent as for "customer care"). Quite user-friendly and quite easy setups. The idea of the "modularity" of the machine is helpful as well: we got our custom machine with for FP, injectors as major modules, with the awareness of the chance to upgrade the machine with new modules instead of buying a new plate reader. Very good and competitive quality/price value."

"A long awaited multipurpose plate reader that does not require filters. I have used it for a variety of assay systems; fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarisation, absorbance and found it easy to use. The injectors are a great addition for kinetic assays."

  • Application Area:Various single read and time resolved fluorescence assays

"It was about time that BMG had a monochromator based platereader, to combine the flexibility of that sort of instrument with their general high standards of instrument quality and customer support. Our Clariostar works well, except for some small issues with the software, potentially stemming from compatibility problems with the setup of our operating system. But the customer support (UK) is as always excellent. Due to the fundamental design changes, it probably wasn't possible to keep the same filter format as for the filter-based platereaders (the Clariostar still needs filters for polarization experiment and at short wavelengths), so the filters can't be interchanged, which is a pity. Overall, it is probably the most versatile platereader on the market, and the modular build up (can be upgraded with high temperature option up to 65C, luminscence, injectors etc.) gives you flexibility on the price."

"It is a very flexible instrument with good software. It is suitable for assay development (96/384 well, multiple reading modes). Tuneable not filters. For low/medium throughput, not an HTS machine."

The high-performance CLARIOstar® microplate reader from BMG LABTECH with monochromators, spectrometer, and filters. A multimode reader with revolutionary monochromator technology.

Advanced LVF Monochromators™ offer cutting-edge technology, such as linear variable filters and a linear variable dichroic mirror, for higher performance fluorescence and luminescence assays including FRET and BRET. There is no compromise when it comes to sensitivity and flexibility, making the CLARIOstar® one of the leading microplate readers on the market.

Features of the CLARIOstar®:

  • A continuously adjustable bandwidth from 8 to 100 nm allowing more light for excitation and emission, resulting in greater sensitivity
  • No stray light thanks to the LVF Monochromators™ design means greater sensitivity
  • Top and bottom reading for fluorescence and luminescence assays using monochromators or filters
  • Combine filters and monochromators in the same measurement for higher performance in any fluorescence or luminescence assay
  • High-speed, full spectrum UV/Vis absorbance (220 to 1000 nm in under 1 second per well)
  • A dedicated, high-energy laser for AlphaScreen® and AlphaLISA® assays

Direct optics – as opposed to fiber optics – provide higher light transmission, significantly increasing performance in assays such as fluorescent proteins.

Now with independent O 2 and CO 2 control for live cell assays.

The CLARIOstar multi-mode microplate reader from BMG LABTECH is now even more versatile! The new Atmospheric Control Unit (ACU) allows independent, simultaneous control of both O 2 and CO 2 within the microplate reader chamber. Ranging from standard cell growth assays to cytotoxicity assays, the ACU provides the optimal environment for any live cell-based assay.
