Surface Plasma Resonance (SPR)-based instruments are poised to play a central role in addressing all aspects of proteome analysis.   The combination of SPR and mass spectrometry permits the identification and secondary characterization of binding partners through a single analytical tool.  SPR can be used to isolate a binding partner from complex mixtures.  The binding interaction monitored by SPR can, at the same time, provide functional data, i.e. affinity and kinetics of binding.    The bound interactant can then be recovered for identification by mass spectrometry.  For further information, please see and  Ref:  Biacore presentation at HUPO 2003 in Montreal, October, 2003.
