The latest generation of a reliable platform, well supported by its manufacturer.
Application Area: Part of my flow cytometry core, used by many groups across multiple partners.
"The Fortessa X20 is essentially the latest generation of the LSR. The platform and the software have been around for over a decade. My instrument is 5 lasers, 18 colours, with emphasis on the violet and yellow/green lasers. Now, 10 months after purchase, my instrument is heavily used both for tubes and 96 well plates on the HTS. Unfortunately, we had a long lag time where a simple but hard to detect problem robbed us of a reliable instrument. BD have been highly supportive throughout the process, even bringing the director of SORP to look at the instrument. I am still likely to replace my aging LSR II with a second Fortessa X20."

"The LSRFortessa X-20 gives unparalleled flexibility in fluorochrome selection with its 4 laser arrangement. Its fast sample uptake allows processing of large quantities of cells, which is ideal in my applications of looking at rare cell populations such as CD133 hematopoietic stem cells and NK cells in human blood. The familiarity of the FACSDiva software makes the Fortessa a good step up in higher parameter analysis from the Calibur or Canto series. While definitely at a higher price-range than other capable cytometers, the Fortessa allows cytometry to be pushed to its limits with 18 parameter detection and should be considered for any large-scale cytometry applications. After sales care has primarily been carried out by staff of our flow core facility."
