Good results, dependable overall.
Rating: 2.7

  • Application Area:Flow cytometry to assess immune cells in blood samples

"This machine works best in a room that is cooler than typical room temperature. It’s very large but typically dependable. Has less laser colours and features compared to newer cytometers like the BD fortessa. This machine is easy to get bubbles or clots in, under which it is easy to lose your sample, which is not the best."

"I have a STD 4 laser, 10 color instrument, and have been running it for almost a decade. Currently, I have just updated to DiVa 8, the latest generation UV laser and a solid state violet laser. My only real issue is that of all the instruments in my flow core this one blocks the most frequently, but it has the highest use (150-160 hrs/month). I now have a second SIP, and swap SIPs when blockages are reported. The major issue here is sample preparation rather than a defined fault in the instrument. New technology instruments (3 laser, 13 color @ ~AU$100-120,000) means this instrument is struggling as far as value for money is concerned. "

"The equipment is pretty easy to use because of the integration between software and hardware. The data derived from the machine is pretty accurate compared to other cellular assays. However, the kit for the calibration of the baseline fluorescence is relatively expensive."

Four-laser, 18-color benchtop flow cytometer
Building on the ease of use and flexibility of the BDTM LSR, the first UV benchtop analyzer, BD Biosciences introduces the BDTM LSR II. The BD LSR II has performance, capabilities, and flexibility never seen before in a benchtop analyzer. Free up your high-performance cell sorter by moving your application(s) that require a UV laser to the BD LSR II.

The BD LSR II can be configured with up to four fixed alignment lasers and the ability to detect up to 18 colors, utilizing a revolutionary optical design. The BD LSR II can be configured with a 488 nm, 405 nm, 633 nm, and 355nm UV laser. At the heart of the BD LSR II are new digital electronics. The electronics digitize signals 10 million times per second in 16,384 discrete levels. This expands channel resolution and increases detection sensitivity. Electronic dead time is eliminated; more precise fluorescent measurements can be made improving linearity, compensation, and quantitation of fluorescence measurements.

BD LSR II System

  • Up to 18-color detection
  • Digital acquisition and analysis system
  • Flexible and modular for future upgrades

Laser Options

  • 355nm UV, 405 nm, 633 nm
