"The MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer is a very reliable and efficient method for microbial identification. Software is easy to operate and results are readily reproducible. 5 stars were given for Ease of Use due to its simple universal sample preparation method. It has a very high initial cost. However, the cost per test is very low compared to other biological methods of identification. Maintenance on this instrument is required an average of 4 times per year, and can be somewhat costly. In summary, the MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer is a distinguished analytical method of microbial identification."
