The Sciex API 4000 is a workhorse!

"Sciex's excellent Turbo Ion Source is great at keeping the internals as clean as possible. We experience much less fouling with this assembly than we experience with "equivalent" technologies from other companies. Cleaning is relatively simple, and service visits are performed regularly by friendly technicians who know their stuff. Service is expensive, but necessary when you're running a service business like a clinical reference lab. It's too bad they stopped manufacturing these! The API 4500 is a nice instrument, but slightly more issue-prone than the 4000. The fact that they use the same software and source is a definite plus though."

"Mass spectrometry has both qualitative and quantitative uses. In our study we used mass spectrometry as it is suitable for use in all areas. Although the high initial purchase cost, it allows for multi-parameter measurements and has decreased the cost per parameter. Targeted with the high accuracy and specificity allows for a quantization. Software and system-dependent parameters is difficult compared to other devices. However, it will be very difficult to learn. With this device we have performed quantitative analysis of methylmalonic acid as a biomarker of vitamin B12 deficiency, damaged DNA nucleosides as a biomarkers of DNA damage and isoprostane levels as a biomarker of lipid peroxidation."

"I gave 4 stars for ease of use because of some difficulties with overlay and hard processing while undertaking multi-residue pesticide analysis. But of course I would recommend this system to my colleagues. I love AB SCIEX. Their system is very qualified if a little bit expensive. "

"This instrument is easy to use and for most time can produce good quality data. Also it is easy to learn. I am a new user for this instrument and it only took me less than two months to learn how to use it. Although sometimes it may cause some problems but it doesn’t take a long time to fix that. "This instrument is very good for trace analysis of organic compounds. The sensitivity is pretty good and easy to operate. We used it to analyze PPCP (pharmaceuticals and personal care products) level in drinking water system. We also used it for the detection of the emergency contaminants like DBPs in Missouri drinking water system. Pros: high sensitivity, reliable quantification. Cons: configuration with some LC systems is very complex."
