Agilent 7890B GC System by Agilent Technologies

"We recently purchased the Agilent 7890B GC system. It's sensitivity is very high and can detect peak at very low ppm. When we analyzed the 6890 GC system, there was a very low response and was difficult to detect. When we transferred that method on 7890B the response was much higher and easily detected. While transferring the method from Agilent 6890 GC system to 7890B in some cases we needed to adjust the split ratio, as the 7890B GC system is very sensitive. Improved response with headspace for low detection, the system oven cools down very quickly, which reduce overall analysis time with backflush."

"I use unknown analysis software to screen untargeted compounds in the sample. I do not have a standard and I used a retention index to help identify the compound. I have a duplicate that gives slightly different results and have questions about it. Agilent after-sale/customer service is great. He talks me through why it is not robust and he understands I couldn't have a standard but I need quant results even though I am using an unknown analysis semi-quant method. He took me out of my misery and has given me a direction (although is quite a painful process to look through all mass spectra) and he did follow up however I am too mentally exhausted to build a data analysis method by going through all mass spectra of the compound our customer wanted. Really good experience with customer service and once I recover mentally I am sure I would love to give feedback on how the method is doing to that particular passionate remote service engineer."

"The TCD's on these are bad. We had the 5890's for years and never had a problem. A couple weeks of using these and there is a really bad baseline noise (+/- 6 mV). Tech support hasn't been able to figure out why. I really wish I could have kept using my 5890's but time marches on."

"Our production facility runs 24/7. The in-house QC and R&D labs use Agilent GC-FID systems. We currently have 3- 7890A and 5-7890B twin Capillary-FID systems. Full 7693 141 place autosamplers with twin G4513 towers. The sample load on these 8 systems is heavy so we have built into our maintenance program scheduled annual rebuild and requalification cycles. Because the Agilent systems are all similar, keeping all of them running has been easy. We sent 3 analysts to advanced instrument maintenance school and keep all serviceable parts in-house. This process has reduced unscheduled down time to 3-5%. The availability of serviceable parts and the quick response to purchase orders has helped to keep us running. We are very happy with the investment we have made in Agilent GC systems. The linkup to EMPOWER 3 data systems has been successful as well."

"We have bought a new Agilent Technologies 7890B GC System with an Agilent Technologies 7693 Autosampler and OpenLab software. We are satisfied with the parameters of the GC. There is only one disadvantage (comparing with an old 6890 GC): 7890B has got two speed ventilator for the fast oven cooling: the higher speed of the ventilator is very noisy. Luckily we have bought another OpenLab licence for the Data analysis only. So we can evaluate the chromatograms in the quiet office contrary to the noisy laboratory. On the other hand the analysis using 7890B GC is faster than with 6890 GC. The priority in our laboratory is high throughput, which is great. I recommend this GC machine."
