"The TOF/TOF 5800 System was used to identify peptides not approachable by ESI-based instruments. Interestingly, the instrument allowed to identify a totally different set of phosphopeptides. Furthermore, the MS was used for quality control of proteins following site-specific tagging as well as for the identification of peptides from large-scale proteomics experiments. Easy to use and very robust."

"The TOF/TOF 5800 System was used for LC-MS approaches (offline separation of complex tryptic peptide mixtures, spotting on target plates and analysis by MALDI). Importantly, the application of MALDI allowed the identification of different sets of peptides and proteins compared to ESI. Furthermore, the system showed to be superior in the identification of certain phosphosites. Easy to handle, great source mirror cleaning option (reduces the interactions with service technicias significantly) and reliable laser."

LC-MALDI-MS as orthogonal technology to LC-ESI-MS

"The TOF/TOF 5800 System was used in the lab in order to perform LC-MALDI-MS experiments. The system was found to be robust and relatively easy to use. Having a self-cleaning MALDI source helped to significantly decrease the number of interventions by service technicians. LC-MALDI-MS was found to deliver orthogonal information to LC-ESI-MS (e.g. different peptides identified, differences in the identification of phosphorlyation sites). Furthermore, the possibility of "storing" a chromatographic run on a MALDI target plate was extensively used, both for re-analysis of samples but also for new methods of relative protein quantification."
