"Very user-friendly product. great for quantification of different kinds of analytes. I use it for peptide analysis. If efficiently developed, methods can detect very low concentrations. I would recommend the product but there is an upgrade released as well. That could be better."

Good mass spec but bad UPLC

"The mass spectrometry part is pretty robust, but the HPLC breaks frequently. There is no column back pressure recording. It is supposed to have 4 solvent channels so that we can have 2 sets of mobile phases and switch between the 2 easily. but that is not the case. Some errors show up every time we set it up to switch during a batch run. And we were told by tech support just to use 2 channels and don't switch."

Excellent sensitivity and speed of analysis for quantification in low-level

"For my work to identify biomarkers and metabolites quantification in low-level by LCMS the mass spectrometer of Sciex 5500 QTrap is very efficient in two aspects: scanning speed/mass analysis and high sensitivity in MRM mode. For some results using neutral loss (NL) mode, I also like the speed and sensitivity analysis when working with up to 2 NL transitions, no more than that. I have been working on the equipment about one year and I realize that the results are of high quality and reproducible results. Another advantage of the Sciex mass spectrometer is the ability to attach the equipment to a chromatograph of another company of my own preference. However, I have worked with others MS equipment software simpler, easy to learn and handle than the Analyst (the Sciex 5500 software). Further care to be taken when working with this equipment is to select the ion m/z desired with much attention because of its low resolution, although it is not a problem only assigned to this equipment. In relation to maintenance and cleaning is very practical equipment. The cost of maintenance, I believe to be the average of the other companies. Regarding the service after the sale, I have no objection, my questions are usually answered. "

"Software could be better, but like most software it is OK once you get used to it. We have had this instrument for 3 years and it has worked well consistently with no maintenance problems. It just keeps running, and I have confidence whenever I use it that it will perform well with no unexpected issues. Sciex service rep that performs yearly maintenance and calibration is knowledgeable and efficient, sales and application staff have been very helpful. "

"QTRAP® 5500 LC-/MS/MS System was used to quantitate a targeted group of primary and secondary metabolites. MRM parameters were based on the results derived after manual infusion of each compound which once learnt was very easy. All the compound belonging to a group could be put together in a method and a single run on LC coupled to QTRAP 5500 can identify the compounds from the sample even if they have same retention time. The calibration curve can easily be made using multiquant software which requires standard at different concentration and thus getting results is extremely easy. Once the MRM has been made, all standards can be run in mixture thus saving time. The results are accurate as they are based on MRM. Thus the only time consuming step is making a MRM library for the standards. The cleaning is very easy and takes a little time as only the curtain gas plate requires cleaning only if machine is used regularly and the matrix is dirty.
