"The microscope is very well built; the internal and external components are high quality and well engineered. A casual confocal/multiphoton microscope user should expect a fair amount of training to become comfortable and proficient at operating this microscope. Changing objectives is simple and quick, regardless of the adapter needed. The A1 scanner works wonderfully in either Galvano or resonant mode; the Nikon software allows for simple switching to and from either scan mode. However, any user that is not familiar with Nikon's NIS Elements software should expect an additional amount of time to become adept in navigating the extremely robust and powerful NIS software. Whether you have live or fixed cells, 3D culture matrices, or live tissue, this confocal/multiphoton microscope is engineered to broaden your scope of applications that any user would desire for a microscope in such a price range. "Resonance scanning confocal provides very fast 4D imaging. Switch over time between TIRF and confocal is too long to make it useful for live cell dynamic processes. The acquisition software does have some bugs."
