Good instrument, need improvement for software and sales person professionalism.
Application Area: Metabolite analysis from various samples, cell/tissue/serum, etc.
"Q-Exactive is a very decent high-resolution mass spectrometer for small molecular compounds analysis. It provides less than 5ppm mass accuracy and the system is robust, but the operating software (with Ultimate 3000 HPLC) is troublesome. The salesperson that covers Illinois is not professional (rarely responding to our very legitimate questions), which unfortunately made the customer have not that good of an experience to deal with Thermo (which otherwise is a really great company)."

"Great instrument, we bought it together with an IC, main issues were software implementation. Mass stability performance is outstanding! Sadly Thermo tries to sell bad software and pc options (half a year before Win7 supports ended we got a 32bit win 7 PC, software was 32 bit of course too, without an upgrade voucher. This was a bit hard. Also, finding out which software worked for IC-MS coupling took more than a year. Support was great concerning this, as it seemed to be a new coupling version."

"This is a bit complex to operate but gives a better result compared to lc/uv, and it is very sensitive, accurate, precise and efficient. I will recommend this to an analyst. It is very expensive in my home country but it is worth its value because system stability parameters are always great compared to others. It is very useful for pharmaceutical analysis, petroleum products, biological samples and beverages. I will recommend it to colleagues."

"It's a really simple mass spectrometer, the resolution of the orbitrap is excellent. Calibration can be done by yourself. As it's a benchtop machine it requires only a small space in the lab. Insertion of samples and measurement is very quick."
