"Most important of all is the lack of down time. We have several of these spectrometers and they have survived hundreds of novice users. The source lamps are occasionally left on, shortening their useful lifetime, but the spectrometers keep working. The software is idiosyncratic but will perform most operations. In fact, I found the DOS version of the software to be more user-friendly. I do most of my own mathematical operations via spreadsheet and don't use the data-handling features. "
