"Overall, the separation of 18 aldehydes in human serum is excellent with the 7890. We have had trouble with early eluting compounds shifting retention times up to a minute and have not been able to resolve this issue. I would have like to known this problem existed before purchasing this instrument."

"For the most part I am satisfied with our system however we were having trouble getting the systems (on Windows 7) to connect to the network and GC (more than one NIC card). We were told they didn't support dual NIC card use but found that after some trial and error we were able to get the systems running successfully with two NIC cards. It took a while and we received very little support from Agilent, which was frustrating."

"It's easy to operate for students to carry out different research projects. Our old system was messed up and we bought this one. Instruments for teaching lab usually require more attention because students may not follow GLP. The GC system is easy to clean, baking the column only takes place once every two or three weeks and it works fine."

"This is an undergraduate friendly system. Column changing and method development is simple and straight forward. The auto sampler is very helpful in getting accurate measurements. I would recommend this to any of my colleagues to use because of the simplicity and the amount of data collected in a short amount of time."

"I love this instrument! I would greatly recommend this product to my colleagues because of the ease of use and the incredible help that Agilent provides. All staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The best thing to know is that an autosampler is a must, but manual injection works well too. It works for all types of sampling and great for SPME application."

"Easy to use and operate, software is straightforward and not confusing. Analysis time is quick with good results, 10-15 minutes for lighter hydrocarbons and a little under an hour for heavier hydrocarbons like tetradecane and such. Issues like peak tailing and resolution are all easily corrected in the operating parameters with no inherent machine issues. The machine is a little pricy, but will yield good results."

"The instrument is extremely easy to use. I have equipped it with a mass spectrometer, a flame ionization detector, and a nitrogen phosphorous detector, so it is extremely versatile. The installation of these devices was simple as well. The information packet provided a step by step guide on maintenance but the instrument performs well enough that little maintenance is required."

"We were perfectly satisfied by its performance until recently we ran into some trouble trying to use the solvent vent mode of PTV inlet. Its reproducibility seems to be poor. Firmware that drives the injection tower is not able to maintain the demanded delays precisely as they are set in the method and even though Agilent is aware of this trouble, according to local distributor they were unable to fix it yet. This is the only setback we have found so far."

"I have had excellent after sales service. I would like to see some additional software improvements such as the ability to add to a series of samples rather than having to wait until the previous batch is completed. Also, without the LEAP robotics, the sample injection would be difficult but, then again, I'm a clutz! : )"
Faster oven cool-down and backflushing let you get more done in less time, at a lower cost per sample. 5th-generation Electronic Pneumatics Control (EPC) and digital electronics set a new benchmark for pressure setpoint and retention time locking precision (0.001 psi) and help make the 7890A our most dependable GC ever.
