"The machine was very performant in analysing hundreds of metabolites. We also have a good reliability, excellent accuracy and reliable identifications of the metabolites structures. When running the analysis, we were satisfied with the speed, the quality and the reliability of the machine. We are using GC d for the analysis of primary and secondary metabolites of fresh crops including hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds. Our preference for the GC-MS is because it is a method of choice due to its easy operation, high speed, resolution, sensitivity, reproducibility and reliability. Compared to other chromatographic techniques, GC-MS is less complex and requires less maintenance and operating cost, and also lesser variables and components such as solvents, columns and operating pressure. GC coupled with MS or MS/MS offers more reliability and the larger library is available compared to LC or other chromatography that have no extended compounds libraries. Another advantage of GC is the carrier gas and helium is the most suitable because it is safe to use and has the benefit to give a very high resolution, compared to other gases, or liquids used in LC, knowing that the purity and flow of the carrier gas are crucial to achieve good separation and reproducible chromatograms. GC has also good advantage in separating metabolites since capillary columns widely adopted and used provide a more efficient separation."

"We have bought a new Agilent Technologies 7890A GC System with an Agilent Technologies 7693 Autosampler and OpenLab software. We are satisfied with the parameters of the GC. There is only one disadvantage (comparing with an old 6890 GC): 7890B has got two speed ventilator for the fast oven cooling: the higher speed of the ventilator is very noisy. Luckily we have bought another OpenLab licence for the Data analysis only. So we can evaluate the chromatograms in the quiet office contrary to the noisy laboratory. On the other hand, the analysis using 7890A GC is faster than with 6890 GC. The priority in our laboratory is high throughput, which is great. I recommend this GC machine."

"This is our second GC-MS from Agilent. It has held up well with little problems. It has much higher sensitivity than the previous model but just as robust. We also use it with a pyrolysis unit from Quantum which we find useful but rather difficult to maintain and we're not as impressed as with our old Pyro Probe."

The Agilent 6890N GC has been made obsolete. This includes the G1530N, G1530N-EU, G1540N, and G1942N mainframes and all associated options. Agilent will provide guaranteed support for these products through July 31, 2015. Accessories for your 6890N GC can still be ordered. The 8890 GC system is the latest gas chromatograph from Agilent and is the replacement product for the 6890N.
