Librarian of our sequencing library
Application Area: Quality check of our samples before sequencing run to check contamination
"With more than 35000 citations in worlds top journals, Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100 has made its name a brand. Bioanalyzer is our first go to before loading up our samples for sequencing. Its easy to use and accuracy not only informs us about the presence of any unwanted nucleic acid contamination but also helps us to minimize it. It works on highly efficient and sensitive capillary electrophoresis principle that ensures the accuracy of our output. Although there are competitions out there that includes tapestation but not only is expensive but a time-taking process compared to Bioanalyzer."

2100 Bioanalyzer is currently the heart of our sequencing department
Application Area:Analyzing NGS libraries and quality of our DNA, RNA, cfDNA, miRNA
"Considering the expensiveness of NGS library preparation, we cannot simply rely on the traditional spectrophotometry ratio to check the quality of our input DNA or RNA. Before we begin sequencing, one must have a quality checkpoint to ensure quality output, and that is promised by our 2100 Bioanalyzer. This easy-to-use instrument with user-friendly software adds to our confidence of subjecting quality, right sized, and contamination free-DNA to our sequencers. We are thankful to the Agilent technologies for this life-saver instrument that undoubtedly gives us an extra edge to prevent not only time but money wastage."

Quick and easy RNA analysis, so happy we have this instrument!
Application Area:Analyze DNA and RNA extraction quality
"The Bioanalyzer 2100 is very useful for analyzing the quality of nucleic material. I use the instrument for assessing the success of total RNA extractions from a jellyfish model organism system, which has historically been difficult to extract material from. It's great to easily and quickly see if my extractions are good quality or not so I can plan my future lab work. Also, the machine has worked well for years with no issues!"

This instrument is useful
Application Area:Next generation sequencing
"This instrument is useful for NGS. We are a Genomics Core and we use the RNA kit to check the RNA integrity and we use this for checking quality of the libraries we get. We use the DNA1000 kit for the libraries to look at the fragment distribution. We use qubit to get the concentration as this instrument isn't the best for getting the concentration, but it is great for fragment size and there are other instruments and assays are out there to aid with the concentration. One downfall is whether you have 1 sample or 12 samples, you have to run 1 chip, which can be a waste if you have only 1 sample (as it fits 12)."

"This simple and user-friendly device allowed us to definitely get rid of SDS-PAGE equipment and consumables, providing excellent separation power and semi-quantitative results, with both proteins, carbohydrates, and glycolipids. It's of priceless value to have all data in electronic format, in either gel-like or chromatography-like format, with a 'true' signal intensity."

Application Area:RNA Quantifying
"This is the industry standard (and only way I know of) for checking the quality of RNA. It will quantify whether you had any degradation of the RNA during extraction and it will quantify how terribly your colleague has degraded the sample into noise while half-heartedly extracting it. It'll also try to quantify the concentration, but as of five years ago that part wasn't as accurate as a good old spec. It is a bit tricky to use (especially in the lower concentration kits), but it's not horrible (better than most ELISAs). Just expect one chip per box to have a bad day."

"From 'chip-in-lab' to 'Lab-on-chip'. We use this Bioanalyzer in our research as a microfluidic-chip platform for in-house designed and fabricated chips fitted into the Agilent plastic chip holder, and run our own developed chip capillary electrophoresis (Chip-CE) or chip isotachophoresis (chip-ITP) methods (method modifications are not part of the commercial product but we could arrange this with the company). In this way we use a commercially available and compact (filed-deployable) instrumental platform with LIF detection for our research in analytical microfluidics."

Application Area:Gel electrophoresis alternative
"Easy to use but if I want to run less than 12 samples then reagent is wasted. In my opinion the reliability is around 90%, I have had some errors where gels lost track of samples. It takes around 20 minutes to run, faster run times would make this instrument much better."

"A must have tool for RNA QC. Nano chips are easier to use than pico chips which are less forgiving. Overall a great analysis tool that replaces conventional gel electrophoresis."
