"In my experience, the binary pump in the 1290 is one of the best in the market, it is capable of delivering very high flow rates with very little pulsing, as measured by the baseline noise. The instrument is compatible with several detectors, UV/Vis, DAD, MS, RI, fluorescence etc. [I have mine set up with a DAD and ES-MS in tandem]. The Chemstation software package is very user-friendly and faster to learn than other software systems. And it is much more affordable than its Waters and Thermo counterparts."

"As a long time Agilent user, I want to contribute a word of caution to those interested in using Agilent UHPLCs for salt-containing mobile phases. Agilent customer service (via phone) was surprised that the installation engineer said it was OK to run salts on the instrument. The small volumes cause the instrument to need a water flush immediately after every run, which is tough in our lab. We now have all UHPLC systems dedicated to RP-HPLC, which works VERY well on these instruments. It is also nice to have the purging integrated into the software, enabling us to fully control the instrument from our remote desktops outside of the lab (think COFFEE!)."

Built-in functionality such as the autosampler purging and washing helps reduce carryover which is a major concern for the type of work we do. We have another lab using the Infinity II LC, making use of the large volume injection capability to do small to medium scale purification work. This Infinity II LC series is indeed flexible and versatile, making it suitable for small and medium scale types of work flow."
