Industry News: Examine the Connection Between Consciousness and Nature at the 13th Annual International Bioethics Forum: 3.8 Billion Years of Wisdom: Exploring the Genius of Nature

11 Apr 2014

Experts explore consciousness through the perspective of intelligence in nature at the 2014 International Bioethics Forum: 3.8 Billion Years of Wisdom: Exploring the Genius of Nature. Hosted by the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center Institute (BTC Institute) and Promega Corporation, the conference will take place May 1-2, 2014, in Madison, Wisconsin. Presenters include Wade Davis (anthropologist, author and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence), Dayna Baumeister (Biomimicry 3.8 Institute Co-founder), Louie Schwartzberg (cinematographer, director and producer) and Jeremy Narby (anthropologist and author).

Many questions related to the brilliance nature so often displays and potential connections to consciousness will be explored. Presentations include:
• Little by Little, One Travels: Far Embracing the Genius of Nature (Wade Davis)
• The Science, Art and Meaning of Forest Wisdom (Suzanne Simard, Ph.D.)
• The Shamanic Journey to Acquire Knowledge (Michael Harner, Ph.D. and Susan Mokelke, J.D.)
• Life is Smarter than We Are: The Natural Intelligence Paradigm (Simon G. Powell)
• The Planet, Politics and the Primal Truth Quest (Louis G. Herman, Ph.D.)
"Nature seems to have evolved with the ability to combine intricate, amazing complexity in ways that are astounding and that we don't understand. Is evolution random or is something else happening? Statistically, it seems unlikely it is random," says Bill Linton, Promega CEO. "The forum provides a unique opportunity for attendees to discuss this fascinating topic with international experts on the topic in a small group setting."

Designed for the general public, the forum is dedicated to sharing scientific information and considering related social and ethical implications. Forum registrants also have the opportunity to join a presenter for a small group discussion over dinner on Thursday evening, May 1.

3.8 Billion Years of Wisdom: Exploring the Genius of Nature will be held at the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center (5445 East Cheryl Parkway) on the Promega Corporation campus in Madison (Fitchburg), Wisconsin.

In addition to the BTC Institute and Promega, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation are Platinum Sponsors of this event.
The forum is limited to 350 participants. For more information or to register, please visit: http://www.btci.org/bioethics/default.html.
