New Long Column Lengths in AXIA™ Preparative Line Enable Fast Scale-Up
21 Nov 2008

Phenomenex Inc., a global leader in the manufacture of separation science consumables, announces the addition of 150 and 250 millimeter lengths to its AXIA chromatography column line. AXIA columns feature a unique packing and hardware design that eliminates bed collapse in preparative chromatography.

Compared to conventional columns, AXIA delivers a 29% increase in efficiency along with a significant decrease in standard deviation. The AXIA columns last longer than conventional options – up to 1,000 cycles – and deliver high reproducibility and efficiency. Phenomenex media including Luna®, Gemini® and Synergi® are now available in the longer AXIA columns, as are the new Lux™ phases for chiral separations.

AXIA uses proprietary hydraulic piston compression (patent pending) technology that eliminates the variability in the manufacture and packing of these preparative HPLC columns and produces more robust and durable final products.

Initially offered in lengths of 50, 75 and 100millimeters, the new longer AXIA 21.2 ID columns enable customers to triple their sample load in the scale-up process. They are ideal for preparative purification applications such as drug discovery and development, fine chemicals and pesticides.

“AXIA is completely unique in the preparative LC arena,” explained JT Presley, brand manager for Phenomenex. “Now when our customers need to scale up their methods, they can move into the long columns for a fast and efficient solution.”
