Atomic spectroscopy provides quantitative elemental analysis of atomized samples. Atomic absorption (AA) spectrometers analyze the absorption spectra, whereas in atomic emission spectroscopy (AES) the emission spectra of a sample is analyzed after excitation by a flame, discharge or plasma source.
