Application Note: Using the Agilent 7000B Triple Quadrupole GC/MS for Parts per Trillion Detection of PAH Metabolites in Human Urine

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) make up a class of more than 100 chemicals composed of up to six benzene rings fused together. They are present in gasoline, soot, coke, and foods that contain small amounts of PAHs include smoked, barbecued foods and roasted coffees. This application note discusses a method developed to monitor very low levels of PAH metabolites in urine using the Agilent 7000B Triple Quadrupole GC/MS System. This is of importance, due to a health concern, brought to light by a number of studies which have shown increased incidence of cancer in humans exposed to PAH mixtures.
