Expansion of human mesenchymal stem cells on PVA microcarriers
19 April 2024

Anchorage-dependent mammalian cells, including human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), can be expanded on culture surfaces, and microcarrier-based suspension bioreactors are a possible approach for scaling up hMSC production. Microcarriers provide a high surface-area-to-volume ratio that can realize high yields of cell products, including hMSCs. Kuraray reports on a novel poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-based microcarrier for hMSC expansion in suspension culture.
