Application Note: Characterization of Gold Nanoparticles with AF4 coupled to ICP-MS

This application note describes a method of detecting Engineered Nanoparticles (ENPs) in a complex fluid matrix. A mixture of gold nanoparticles is characterised Hollow-Fiber Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (HF5) coupled to single-particle-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (sp-ICP-MS) to generate size information, complementing direct sizing detectors such as MALS or DLS instruments. This article shows how sp-ICP-MS can be an efficient tool to obtain size information where other methods cannot be applied.
