Virus Titer Determination from Cells and Tissues an Example of Selective Homogenization
13 Jan 2012

There are a variety of viruses in the environment, which can infect humans, animals, plants or any other organism. To analyse, identify and to determine the viruses, they need to be isolated from the environment sample, which can be from soil to human tissue and plant material. Sometimes viruses can be detected directly with PCR methods but very often they need to be further cultivated in cell culture. Isolation of intact viruses is here crucial. The Fastprep® System is a well established method for homogenization of hard-to lyse samples. This application note demonstrates via the example of viruse isolation from mouse tissues, how this thorough method can be also used to partially lyse a sample for further analysis.
