Solid Phase Microextraction: Solventless Sample Preparation for Monitoring Flavor Compounds by Capillary Gas Chromatography

This application note discusses SPME and applications for the characterization of flavor components in foods and beverages and fragrance compounds in a wide range of products. SPME is fast and easy, and eliminates the costs and hazards associated with using organic solvents. SPME can be used for screening samples prior to a detailed analysis. Good precision under consistent sampling conditions also makes the technique viable in quantitative analyses.
