QA/QC of Coffee Using the Agilent Cary 630 ATR-FTIR Analyzer
7 Jan 2013

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world due to its pleasant taste and aroma, caffeine content and scientifically-reported health benefits. It is prepared in multiple ways by subjecting green coffee beans to washing, boiling, drying, pressurizing, roasting and fermenting processing techniques. Ideally, coffee beans should be authenticated prior to blending and packaging and the coffee industry require an analysis method that would allow operators to accept or reject a coffee shipment on the spot. This application note demonstrates how the Agilent Cary 630 ATR-FTIR Analyzer is ideal for rapidly detecting subtle changes in the chemical composition of coffee, eliminating the need for any sample preparation or extraction.
