Because of the potentially lethal effects of unintended hERG block, the FDA has recommended that all compounds should be tested for this effect in an electrophysiological (patch-clamp) assay before being tested in humans.
The hERG Fluorescence Polarization Assay Kit from Invitrogen is a simple, fast and cost effective alternative to electrophysiological hERG testing. This application note demonstrates how the Assay was performed on BMG LABTECH´s PHERAstar and how the results show great similarity to traditional hERG testing. The Simultaneous Dual Emission detection of the PHERAstar provides for outstanding sensitivity and accuracy in fluorescence polarization assays, minimizing read times and increasing Z’ values.
