Application Note: New Research Evaluating Cisplatin Uptake in Ovarian Cancer Cells by Single Cell ICP-MS

Cisplatin is one of the most widely used of platinum-based cancer chemotherapy drugs. Its effectiveness is due to its ability to bind to the DNA, resulting in DNA-platinum (Pt) adducts, which in cancer cells block DNA replication and result in cell death.  A new, emerging technique has been developed that allows for the quantitation of metal at the level of a single cell: Single Cell ICP-MS (SC-ICP-MS). This application note describes how SC-ICP-MS is used to explore cellular uptake of cisplatin at the single cell level and proves the robustness of the method.
